Information for Yacht Owners

New and Existing yacht owners are always welcome at the PMYC.

General Enquiries

New yacht owners or those that are planning to purchase are often overwhelmed with jargon and a knowledge gap in how to approach yacht ownership. Getting to know one of the existing club members who also owns a yacht is one of the easiest ways to close the gap. Make contact through the social media or email addresses and we can put you in touch with a Skipper.

Safety Requirements

If you currently own a yacht and would like to participate in events hosted by the PMYC, the club can assist you with the completion of a safety audit for Category 7 if you want to race in the river or Category 4 to participate in offshore events. These safety requirements ensure that each yacht is capable of responding to emergencies and is able to handle the conditions that are anticipated for these events.

The safety inspection routine is an annual safety checklist completion process that is signed off by a club endorsed safety officer. The annual checklist needs to be completed before the first race attended by the yacht and expires after 12 months. Yacht owners must review the process outlined to ensure that they comply with the requirements of the PMYC.

Handicapping

The handicapping process relies on the TopYacht personal based handicapping system (PBH) The process we use is PBH which rewards yachts that constantly improve their performance gradually over the course of a season favouring those who are always improving their skills and speed around the course. Large variations in performance are given greater adjustments however a big one off win or loss is averaged out over a number of races.
